My school can be found in a small coastal town in the South Carolina Low Country. It is a Title One arts infused middle school serving approximately 567, 6th, 7th and 8th graders. Kids in our school come from all different demographics, some live in government housing just a few blocks away. Many of my students go home to the responsibility of watching smaller siblings until their parents get home. Many of our kids have never seen the ocean even though it is 20 miles away. They have few cultural or interesting life experiences to share. One thing many of my students have in common, a love for the outdoors....using digital cameras is the hook for getting students to love their surroundings, see the world differently and ask questions about their community.
