The raised garden beds will help demonstrate the interdependence of plants and animals, how our food grows, the importance of soil chemistry and nutrients, identifying the parts of the plants, and many more valuable hands-on lessons. I plan to incorporate math by using tools for measurement, arrays, fractions, time, money, and computation. Writing will also be integrated by documenting and drawing our predictions and results in our garden. Students have an amazing opportunity to attend a STEAM class for an hour per week. I plan to utilize our raised garden beds, not only during their STEAM class, but also throughout the week to enrich our science class. All five second grade classes will have the opportunity to have their own raised garden beds.
