I teach reading, language arts, and social studies to a population of students that have a mild to moderate learning disability. Approximately 95% of our students qualify for our free or reduced lunch program. Our students have been exposed to the some of the harshest things in life as well as so little, all at the same time. Even though we live a drive away from the beach or the mountains, the majority of our students have only heard of these geographical features. I wish that I could take them there to experience it themselves, however, I know that is not fiscally possible. We are truly a melting pot. We have a very culturally diverse student population. My students want to be mechanics, teachers, rap artist, athletic stars, police officers, firemen...to just mention a few.
