This year Troy School has been setting up and creating an outdoor classroom. Our middle school students have created trails for hiking and learning areas to accomodate all age groups. Now that we have our classrooms mapped out we are looking for donations to help create rich learning environments. We want to make sure that students have all the tools they need to be successful outdoors. We are looking for donations to help purchase snowshoes, seating and outdoor storage containers for supplies and water. We are also in the process of saving for a permanent structure and outhouse. The goal of our outdoor classroom is to connect students with nature and develop an appreciation for the outdoors. Research shows that outdoor learning helps increase students physical, mental and social health. It helps foster problem-solving and critical thinking skills through exploration, investigation, observation, teamwork and play.
