The Next Generation Science Standards, adopted by the state of California, has now added a strand called Engineering, Technology and Applications of Science. I want my students to understand that science does not happen in isolation. I want them to experience the connections, seeing how science, technology, engineering and math work in unison. In order to compete in the world of technology, students need opportunities to participate in hands-on STEM Lab Activities now. The Ozbot 2.0 Robot inspires students to code, along with Cubelets, mini-robots with different attributes like a bar graph, flashlight, and Bluetooth. Students use an iPad to program Dash and Dot robots. With MakeyMakey, they create circuits using alligator clips, connector wires and household items, and inventors build things with littleBits, electronic building blocks. Students are at a pivotal point in their lives where technology captures their attention, and this can be the spark that accelerates their undiscovered potential! We are looking at the next generation of scientists, engineers, researchers and technicians. Let's start early to open their eyes to the world of possibilities!
