Most of my teaching is done from the rug in the front of my classroom. The problem is I need a good-quality rug that doesn’t get eaten by the custodian’s vacauum! Engaged students in my class come to the rug with their whiteboards for math problem-solving, writers’ notebooks to learn a new writing craft, or math journals to delve into the day’s objective. Students also spread out on the classroom area rug for silent reading of their fiction or non-fiction books; partner work searching for main ideas and details in their text; or science exploration of the layers of the earth. Encouraging students to have a comfortable work space is my goal for student success. If students are comfortable, this will lead to higher engagement in the learning, and greater academic success. Having a good quality, comfortable area rug will ensure that my students meet with success every day.
