This project will give my students access to all types of literature. It will improve their vocabulary and promote higher-level thinking skills. The magazine has something for all students. They will read informational text, nonfiction, fiction and short biographies designed specifically for middle school students. This will provide them with a different way to enjoy reading and something to look forward to each month. The goal is to increase the time they spend reading! Because it's designed for them, it will allow them to know the joys of reading for pleasure. We will work in groups with the magazines allowing students to ask and answer questions. They will do Socratic seminars which demands a close reading of the text and team work. This will be a wonderful tool to teach higher level thinking skills and it will be something they look forward to each month!
