I teach 25 first grade students in a Title 1 school in Philadelphia. My students do not have enough food to eat, their parents can't afford to buy new uniforms; moreover, most parents are working 2 or more jobs just to keep their families in their homes. With such low socioeconomic issues at my school, it is important for my students to have a classroom imbued with their own authentic work in order to develop their love for learning and producing all stages of writing. A classroom rich with learning charts and adequate paper will help to provide my students with a "word-centric" environment, which will create the best independent writers in all of Philadelphia.
