In a performance based class, it is difficult to have regular desks and chairs for we would have to constantly be moving them out of the way to clear room to rehearse. We have found that the most effective solution to this is to use beanbags. This way my students can quickly switch the classroom to into a performance space at a moments notice. Beanbags as desks help foster a creative, flexible and comfortable environment which is essential to a theater class. However at this point most of our beanbags consist more of duct tape than of anything else. Most of our beanbags now are 6-8 years old and we just don't have the budget to replace them. We are desperately in need of new ones. We purchased a couple of new ones that are shaped like chairs this summer and the students love this new style. The back offers more support for classwork while keeping the easy flexibility of bean bags. This project would fund enough of these new chair bean bags for a whole class full to use and allow us to donate the old bean bags (the ones not completely gross) to other classrooms and schools to help create small comfortable reading areas, where the bags will get love and not constant daily abuse.
