My students will use mentor texts to learn how to analyze features of essays. John Green's personal essays in "The Anthropocene Reviewed" are highly engaging and utilize a variety of different writing craft moves. As students analyze these craft moves, they will learn how to implement the moves in their own writing. I am also requesting some reference books to help me learn how to more effectively use mentor texts to aid and strengthen student writing. These resources will help me offer a variety of mentor texts for student analysis. Through the use of many strong mentor texts, students should be able to find writing that appeals to them and learn techniques to help them organize and effectively communicate their ideas and experiences.
