All materials listed will be used to enhance the educational process in our classrooms, allow the students to have fun, and stay engaged while learning. Adding an element of games and friendly competition to the mix helps give learners the encouragement they need to keep pushing forward and be the successful, confident students they are destined to be. The materials we are purchasing will also cater to our students of varying ability levels and allow us to create an array of different hands-on learning experiences. From prior experiences we have provided to our students, we have observed that when they are more engaged in their work, they are less disruptive of their peers. Activities that we have done in the past have included: • The Amazing Race- An entire day devoted to a Math race around the world to 7 different countries. Students encountered road blocks and detours along the way. This was a cross-curricular activity. • The Haunted Math Mansion- Students weaved through webs, mixed up some potions, stopped by a cemetery, and even reached their hands into some spooky mystery boxes. • Harry Potter at Christmas- Students took a trip down Diagon Alley to Olivander’s Wand Shop, stopped by Hogwarts to be sorted by the sorting hat, and played cards at the Leaky Cauldron to practice Expressions, Equations, and Inequalities. • PEMDAS Hospital- Students operated on patients using the Order of Operations. • Super Bowl Activity- Review • Open-Ended Construction Zone We would like to continue enhancing the above activities, as well as, adding a Glow Day (Integers), Army Boot Camp (Fractions), Italian Restaurant (Decimal Operations), and CSI Investigation (Ratios and Proportions). By donating to our project, you will help to improve and increase student engagement overall, and you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement.
