A drying rack is essential to an art classroom that preserves and honors student work. Currently, my classroom has clothes lines that extend across the ceiling for drying projects. I want students to have pride in their own creative work, and I want them to know that their art is safe when they leave the classroom. I want student artists to see the art studio as a place where they can thrive, both creatively, and emotionally. I want them to be able to create a portfolio of their work that will help them gain admission to college, building a future where there are more artists, museum professionals, and art teachers of color. Ensuring this future begins with something as simple as a professional drying rack. Keeping their work safe and ensuring the craftsmanship of their collection of work will help students envision their own creative potential.
