Students in my family of 4kers have already begun a foundational yoga practice using the book Good Morning Yoga by Mariam Gates. Students quickly adhered to the notion that their yoga practice was helping them to center their bodies and minds following their energy busting recess session. Students attempt to practice their yoga sequence on our large group carpet; however, it does not provide adequate room for each of the children to truly have their own space. By having their own mat to practice yoga, children will be able to find space in the classroom that meets their needs for a calm, quiet atmosphere. In addition, having the ability to take out their mats and finding a place to practice during the school day will be a way for children to communicate their needs to teachers and peers in a nonverbal fashion.
