I serve a diverse population of students, who are in transition to the 10th grade. One common fabric that glues students together is that they are disenfranchised and strive towards resolution. In fact, should they complete high school and pursue college, they would be the first in their family to attend college. While they are disenfranchised, they exhibit a relentless will to overcome social constructs and among other barriers to achieve their dreams. In addition, they are vibrant; participate in community restoration activities; and eager to take steps needed to improve community relations. In fact, they successfully orchestrated and carried out a cultural event that drew a wide attraction to their educational institution. The educational institution, which I am affiliated with established a stimulating and therapeutic community that facilitates learning, discipline, a sense of self, identity, and a sense of belonging. It also provides the platform for self-expression and family building.
