My students are inner-city and working-class/poor, and the vast majority are either West Indian immigrants or children of immigrants. Our school is small--only 400 students total--and our mission is grounded in community service, and Gandhi's famous quote: "Be the change you wish to see in the world." Students are required to complete 200 hours of community service for graduation (most schools with this requirement only ask for 50 hours), and service is integrated in to many of their classes.
