My students are amazing. They are curious about learning academically and socially. I teach in a learning studio composed of two sections of first grade and two sections of kindergarten. The energy is high and desire to feel safe, loved and capable is present daily. My students need school to be a place of opportunity as many come from backgrounds with limited resources; therefore, they are in need of exposure to a large range of learning experiences. My school has a community of diverse teachers who are risk takers modeling authentic learning among each other as a staff and the students. We have a building mindset that together we will send the students out of our doors with the one ticket, a strong education. Our goal is that our students will have stronger confidence in themselves which will allow them to break cycles of poverty and brokenness that is ever present in their lives. Our school demographic is primarily African American, Hmong, and Caucasian students.
