My students are mostly 9th graders and are 97% Latino and 96% economically disadvantaged living in Dallas, TX. Because of the low funding at our school and the surrounding middle schools and elementary schools, many of my students have never experienced an interactive classroom where they can learn using all of their senses. My students have a lot of energy and are excited about learning but have a hard time learning by sitting in their seats and listening to their teacher lecture. My students require many different modes of learning when learning tricky biology concepts, and benefit greatly from hands-on learning.
