Using flexible seating in my room allows for more engaged students. Engaging students, espcially those that are still getting used to a classroom environement due to their absence from an actual classroom during Covid restrictions, is crucial. They have shown a noticable change when allowing them different seating options. My students have the opportunity to sit in a varity of places in our room; low tables, tall tables, using clip boeards, or traditional desks. Having the opportunity to get wiggles out whilst being engaged helps us to keep the learning going, and not waste time. It is not natural to insist that 6-7 year olds sit quietly in their seats all day long. These will specifically allow students to participate in collaborative discussions (ELA SL 1.a, b, c) and grow in their understanding and learning. We do not only use partner or group discussion during our ELA block, but we use them in all subject areas. It will benefit students in their overall speaking and listening skills that they will use throughout their lives.
