Ukuleles are the perfect size for young students to have an opportunity to explore the world of string instruments. Each student will have their own ukulele to play during music class and will learn how to hold, care for, and play simple melodies as well as chords on their instruments. Students will also have an opportunity at the end of the unit to play their instrument for another class and invited guests. By having students to play ukuleles in music class in 4th and 5th grades, students will have an opportunity to review all of the music concepts that we have learned beginning in kindergarten. The reviewed music skills include; pitch, rhythm, form, dynamics, tempo, and styles of music. Ukuleles also help students to strengthen their fine motor skills.
