The current group tables in the classroom are not appropriate in size or shape for my students and for the size of the classroom. Some students are too big and their legs cannot rest underneath the table. Some students sit sideways to get comfortable while they work but because they are not facing their work partner they become distracted. If my students could sit relaxed and comfortable it would increase their time on task and communication with work partners and the teacher. The first table would be used for large or whole group where students meet and greet each other. At this table they would also participate in cooking and sensory activities with enough space to work. This is the center and heartbeat of the classroom. The next table would be used for small group with 2-3 children. The group would participate in a small group lesson in math or reading or play a game with rules where they have to interact, follow directions, take turns, share and communicate.
