Our students are some of the most disadvantaged students in the state. Many of them enrolled in school without any English, almost all of them eat both breakfast and lunch at school because they do not have a consistent source of food at home. There are frequent instances of crime near many of their homes. However, when they come to school, they manage to put all of that aside. They manage to learn and engage with new information with such great enthusiasm, that it would be nearly impossible to tell what they go through outside of school. They have a genuine passion for learning, and despite the many differences of culture, race, and religion, they not only respect one another, but they openly support and build strong bonds of friendship and community with one another that are not often seen at other schools that experience more separation.
