Next year I will be embarking on a dream of a lifetime for me. I will become our school's librarian after twenty-four amazing years in the classroom. Over my years of teaching I have watched my students go from a room full of avid readers of books to a lot of "okay if I have to I'll read". It is my dream to reintroduce our school to the joys of reading. I want to bring back those big books are collecting dust in the corner somewhere, those charts of songs and poems that bring in the younger students, and the books that will interest those who are a bit older. The library should be a place of adventure, fun, and learning with a good book. Having the easel will help students in many ways. First for my younger students that range from 4K to second grade will be able to interact with a big book. The possibilities are endless for creating charts so that they can learn songs and poems while the words are being pointed out to them so that their vocabulary and word recognition grows and grows. Having the easel hold books will allow me to read hands free. For my older students some of the same skills will be used for them as the younger students, but at a higher level. We will be able to create charts to go with the texts we are reading, create interactive stories, and even enjoy a fun story they haven't heard in a while. I want to show them that books can be as exciting as a video game, tablet, or phone if they are open to it. The vacuum will help our students who struggle with allergies by keeping rugs clean and dust free.
