My school is located on the Omaha Nation Indian Reservation. The population of the school is 100% Native American. We have a strong cultural heritage that is celebrated in the community and the school. Elders are a big part of our school in teaching the language and traditions of the Omaha way. Most of my students live in poverty, and they do not have access to technology or reading materials in their homes. Some homes do not have a television or even access to technology. My students express a desire to be "like other kids" and they want the same things that other students also have to learn within their classrooms. As a teacher I supply 90% of the materials used by the students in the classroom for my lessons and projects. They are not able to afford the basic school supplies. I teach 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Reading.
