Research shows that recess is just as important as class time in helping students perform at their best. Recess is instrumental in developing social interactions, and it also gives students the break they need to help them process information more efficiently. Unfortunately for many students, recess is far from the play centered break that they really deserve. Last year, my students spent their recess time on a drab blacktop, sharing limited resources. This year, I want to ensure that my student have fun and engaging materials during their recess period, because I know that this will help them come to class focused and ready to learn. My students need playground equipment that will help them enjoy their recess period, and also keep them safe and engaged the entire time. I am requesting balls, jump ropes, hula hoops, and cones to keep my students engaged during recess, and storage carts to store these materials.
