My students are from Southwest Philadelphia and attend Bartram High School. Our school is classified as low income and our School District is in a major budget crisis. The teachers at Bartram provide their own classroom equipment as the school budget does not provide supplies. My students are eager to learn but without equipment in Physical Education it is very difficult. My students deserve to be exposed to a physical education class that is diverse, that teaches non-traditional sports and that has equipment that makes fitness fun. My next unit of learning is racquet sports. My students have shown an interest in Badminton. They want to learn the skills, the rules and have fun while exercising. They are tired of the same old activities such as basketball and football. They are begging to expand their knowledge and my belief is that exposure is the key. Please help my students expand their knowledge of non-traditional sports and exercise.
