Many begin the school day tired. Parental roles shift by default at 4 AM when their parents leave for the fields. The tasks of preparing meals (breakfast and dinner), dressing and grooming younger siblings become their responsibilities. It is their job to drop of toddlers at their predetermined locations. When all is “said and done”, they rush off to school themselves. They come to a school where more than 65% of the students qualify for free lunch. The camera equipment that is being requested will make a great impact on the lives of these students. Due to financial distress, some cannot afford cell phones with cameras. Therefore, certain aspects of their class work go unfinished. The cameras will provide a level playing field for all of the students. They will offer motivation for assignment completion. They will also provide students with a more realistic evaluation in the world of journalism. They will be better able to evaluate and critique their own work performance.
