The neighborhood where my students live is not always a safe environment for them to go outside and play after school or on the weekends. Our school has also eliminated recess in order to increase academics. They have little chance to learn the skills that kids learn from playing organized sports- things like cooperation, teamwork, sportsmanship and working hard and practicing things which are tough. I want to create a baseball club for students to attend once a week on Wednesdays for one hour. They will learn the basics of baseball and get to play some games against each other and hopefully the parents. Through drills and learning the game they will also learn how to work as a team, how to try new things and practice them, and how to be a teammate with people you might not know.
