I am interested in building a classroom community of future citizens who use critical thinking, can debate ideas while respecting and hearing their classmate's opinions and have fun! These second graders spend so much time together during the year that they play an important role in each other's lives. I see my role as teacher, but also facilitator and role model on how to live and work together in a community. Since March of 2020, all students have been put into learning situations that did not offer the social aspect that they so desperately need as they grow. I feel that we as educators are working hard to come back from that, but it will take time and effort to teach the valuable socialization that students may have missed out on. One of my main goals as an educator is student engagement. I want my students to enjoy coming to school and enjoy learning. Building a welcoming classroom is critical to this.
