Every day I am blessed with 28 smiling faces that I can call 'my kids." Coming from single-family homes within an inner-city neighborhood, my 28 first grade students need to enter the door of our classroom feeling safe and secure. They are motivated and excited everyday when they walk into the door of our classroom, and my hope is to continue to excite them and motivate throughout their educational journey. Out of my 28 students, 99% are eligible for free-and-reduced lunch. Being from an under-resourced neighborhood in Illinois and attending a charter school means that the support for my students in school is not adequate for their development. My vision as a teacher is to create a classroom community that ensures every student belongs and is an active participant in his or her learning.
