My two classrooms of fourth grade students are improving their oral and written skills daily in a dynamic and increasingly independent manner. They rely on a constant combination of speaking, listening, reading, and writing in the classroom. Implementing a classroom listening center will allow me to align students into smaller groups to do more focused reading. I want my students to develop a lifelong passion for reading and creating a listening center will increase this opportunity. A listening center will enhance word recognition and reading fluency and build confidence in their reading abilities. A large, colorful rug will become the centerpiece for this group activity.
