As we navigate the uncharted waters of teaching during a pandemic, I have greatly appreciated all the support provided to us as we build the bridges needed to close these gaps. I am very grateful for the 1:1 Chromebooks we now have and the district-provided educational programs to go along with them. The storing and charging of these Chromebooks however, is a bit of a challenge. I’ve tried a few different things. Yet at the end of every school day, it takes a few of us to get things back in order. We find ourselves asking questions such as, “Where are the ends of these last few chargers hiding?” and “How did all the cords get tangled again after they were just sorted?” A charging station would help make the end of every school day much more organized and productive. I would also love to bring in more high-interest, nonfiction reading. The Scholastic News Weekly Magazines are perfect for this. In the past, Scholastic News has always sparked interesting class discussions with many academic and social learning opportunities. They also provide both digital and paper content for use in class, or if needed, for distance learning. I am also excited to see that Even-Moor has updated resource books available for daily practice with science, math, and academic vocabulary. My students are also needing extra practice with multiplication. I’ve included resource books and flashcards to help address these needs also. All of these resources are great for whole group teaching, small group tutoring sessions, group work, or partner discussions. I am also excited to add several books to this project for both shared reading and independent reading. Third graders love a good story and I LOVE sharing stories with them.
