I thought the idea was great, and decided I would like to help my kids have fun learning to decoding instead of memorize phonetic skills. This idea uses word ladders and phoneme manipulation to make words that build off one another. This gives words something in common with the words around it by using word families. As suggested by the creator, I let my students take their time when decoding to make words. We use colored chips as markers for the words they decode and two students play together. \r\n\r\nWhen the weather allows, we are discussing adding these to the sidewalks outside on the playground. Many of my students have not made things on their own until this year. They are growing and learning so much.
