Grammar and writing is an necessary skill that all students need to have as they continue their education. I have noticed that many students really struggle with using grammar and writing correctly, because of that my class uses mentor sentences. This gives us an opportunity to take apart sentences and really understand the different components of a outstanding sentence. Using mentor sentences helps guide students in having a discussion. These pictures books will give my students an opportunity to explore quality writing skills from published authors in a fun way, rather than the traditional sentence correction methods. Mentor sentences are an wonderful tool to use in the classroom to model essential skills from grammar to vital writing skills. Using best mentor sentences gives students a clear illustration of the different grammar rules or figurative language element. Students can make observations, identify the components, analyze their impact, and write their own versions of a high quality sentence. I believe that it helps when the example sentences are high-interest.
