Positive school culture is known to keep students interested in school and increase attendance. As we try to rebound from the impact of the past two COVID years, it's more important than ever that we build and emphasize school culture in an effort to get students excited about the return to school. One way school culture is celebrated at our campus is with school spirit days and with the new house system being implemented on my school campus this year. With our new house system, students will have the opportunity to build community with one another based on shared ideals, all of which are related to and in support of academic and personal growth. As we embark upon this, I want my classroom students AND students in the house I'm an advisor for to have a financially accessible option for participating in the culture-building efforts on campus by designing and creating shirts for our school and their chosen houses. In spite of COVID, I want them to feel safe and comfortable in school, including my classroom's calming corner. I want them to feel loved and appreciated and know that they can create their own future.
