Our fourth grade students are an amazing bunch of fourth graders in Nevada. They are sweet, eager learners. My group of students are at all different levels academically, from those that are learning basic phonics to some that are reading at a sixth grade level and beyond. My students are also varied in their home lives. Some have had many enriching experiences in their lives, experiences that carry over into the schema they access when learning new concepts. Others do not have the benefit of such experiences and would benefit greatly from the picture books and novels to help them visualize and "live" through the characters.
