Project based, creative, innovative, not your typical classroom experience; these are some of the ways I would describe my STEAM classroom at JJ Flynn Elementary. For some students who thrive in settings that are hands-on and non-traditional, this is one part of their day where they feel successful. JJ Flynn houses a wide range of diverse learners as Burlington, Vermont is a Refugee Resettlement City. Our student body speaks up to 25 different languages creating a community from countries such as, Somalia, Vietnam, Bhutan, Congo and Iran. As well as a diverse student body our school demographics vary economically. With a class such as STEAM, students who may not have the resources to experience robotics, engaging field trips or technology are exposed during their school week.
