The ASD Nest program at our school is made up of 25 students with autism. ASD cluster teachers work with these students throughout the day in subjects such as science, music, and lunch/recess times that often cause great anxiety for our children. We need portable tools to support our students throughout the day. Many of our students with autism spectrum disorder are sensitive to noise, making loud environments like the lunchroom, music room, and auditorium highly stressful for them. These students need headphones and earplugs to block out noisy or extraneous sound. Our students also require sensory input throughout the day, whether tactile (fidgets and putty to hold in their hands during lessons), visual (soothing sand-filled hourglass, visual timers), or olfactory (aromatherapy oils).
