Students who play woodwind instruments in band need reeds to be able to play. The instrument is provided to them through the school, but the students cannot play without the reeds. In the beginning one reed is provided, but that one maybe lasts one week at best. If students could have a box of reeds, it could potentially last a couple of months. The reeds wear out from the use and the natural enzymes in the students saliva. That makes the reeds similar to a consumable product. The more reeds they have, the longer they can play through the year.
