My students are from a low income community with parents that want what is best for their kids yet do not have the resources to provide much at home. My students all have various disabilities that impair them from succeeding as fast as their peers on grade level. They all come to me, the Special Education Lab teacher, at various time blocks for reading, math, handwriting, spelling, behavior then return to their regular classrooms to be exposed to regular classroom instruction. My students all want to learn, yet can get frustrated when they lack the materials needed to assist them in their learning activities. I especially love to see their eyes light up when they have achieved a new skill. It is like that light bulb turning on and wow what an excitement is received when an understanding has sunk in!
