First graders will learn the ins and outs of cooperation and collaborate on coding projects. Much of the past year (or longer) students have been isolated from their peers. They need support to build these critical problem solving skills as they work together. Every path forward relies on students knowing how to work well with others while also taking initiative in areas of strength. My hope is that these resources will provide a positive and playful atmosphere as we tackle these skills as a class. Many future classrooms will also benefit from these resources. The coding sets will engage students in solving a shared problem, and keep interest high. The fort building sets will also allow us to transform our classroom easily based on what we’re learning about. Book forts for reading, boats for penguin observations, a variety of buildings and creative items built from the forts will bring learning to life and an element of play. Wiggle stools will make our classroom more inviting to wiggly learners, as will the wikki stir and sensory clay. Students have not received as much practice with fine and gross motor skills with remote learning, so it’s essential that we provide them with lots of opportunities in these areas. These resources and others I’ve asked for will help our classroom community grow closer and prepare skills needed for their generation’s future work.
