My students, while often considered "disadvantaged" remain an eager and enthusiastic group of learners. I teach in a large, high poverty high school in Massachusetts; all my students in both classes qualify for free or subsidized school lunch. I am fortunate that each of my English classes has a small number of students (12-15); this allows for more attention and discussion as well as more check-ins to make sure all students understand the work. Each class contains a diverse group (ethnically, learning style, etc.). Several students are on IEPs.
