I am the teacher of the most intelligent first graders at my school, at least that is what I tell them everyday. I know the more I tell them how great they are, the more willing they are to try hard things. That being said the reality is, I teach at a low income school. We have not been classified as Title one, which would give us added funding from the government, due to the fact that a district can only have so many schools with this designation. Most of the parents of my students are both working, that being said the parents are as involved as they can be. Many of my parents will come in on their day off and spend time working with my struggling students. I think I work at one of the few schools around that has a feeling of family where we all work together for the betterment of our students no matter who their actual teacher is.
