My students are a fourth grade class of mixed ability levels in all subject areas. My goal this year is to bring all of them to grade-level in reading. They range in reading levels of first-sixth grade abilities. I have both male and female students of a variety of races. Each of my students is considered a Title 1 student. They say that they like math the best, however, reading is when most of them really focus and stay on task. I never make my students read aloud in front of the class if they don't want to, I only take volunteers. At the beginning of the year I had only four students who would volunteer to read aloud. Now after seeing how supportive they are with each other's reading, all but four students will volunteer to read during each lesson. This building enthusiasm for reading is why I have selected a set of books for my project.
