To get students excited about learning, teachers often like to integrate field trips and school outings that relate to what students are learning in order to enhance their educational experience. Unfortunately, with so many budget cuts and lack of resources, students aren’t able to participate in adventurous experiences that can promote authentic learning. The innovation of Google Cardboard and Google Expeditions is an opportunity for teachers to provide students with the chance to explore various destinations and make lessons more interactive and exciting for them. My goal for students is to have them develop a new love of learning about science by exploring different parts of our Earth. Google Cardboard and Expeditions will help my students visualize the concepts in the science curriculum, help them become engaged by asking questions, and become curious about scientific phenomena. Integrating Google Cardboard and Expeditions would be a great technological device and software to complement our science curriculum, in particular, our Earth Processes Unit. In this unit, students will develop an enduring understanding of local, regional, and global patterns of rocks and how they change over time due to earth forces. By using the device and software, students will be able to understand where rocks come from and how they shape our Earth. In addition, students will be able to make and record observations from rocks and minerals at different parts of the world. These observations can include identifying properties of rocks and minerals. In this expedition, students would explore 5 different destinations and learn how rocks are formed, how they can be helpful, and what they can tell us about the past.
