My students consist of children whose families are low-income, new immigrants to the U.S. and as well as children who have special needs, such as speech impairment, learning disability, and autism. Despite of these challenges, they are a group of eager and motivated learners who desire to do well in school. Our school embraces the diversity and cultural differences that every child and their families bring. We value highly of what our children are interested in learning and teachers are flexible with their curriculum and planning to better meet the needs of our children. Our school encourages inquiry study units that involves higher level critical thinking at all times. Teachers act as facilitators and children come up with various ways to make new discoveries. We value authentic real-life experiences which happen outside the classroom, as well as what is offered on the internet. Children are constantly asking questions, making wonderings, and making predictions.
