Most of my students do not have the means to use technology at home, and because of the limited technology at our school, they are denied it there too. Our school does have tablets but only one set, which makes it nearly impossible for every student to get to use them. Baltimore City Public School has a budgets of $1.32 billion (2015) and spends ~$15,500 per student, while a comparable city of D.C spends ~29,000 per student (09-10). Because the city cannot provide all of the necessary materials for an ideal learning environment, I, and my students, need assistance. These materials would help offset the lack of materials needed for students. My students are a great bunch of kids. They come to school with an attitude that nothing is too challenging or out of reach. They are eager to learn but sometimes need more than worksheets to motivate them. An iPad, with the endless education apps in the Apple Store, will give them that extra boost to learn.
