Our high school enrollment is about 425. My art room is always busy- an average to 250 students per year take an art class; over half of the student body. That doesn't include the students who come in just to create art, which happens every hour of the day. Our school and community is very supportive of the arts- however my budget goes primarily to art supplies- very little left over to go towards purchasing extra equipment. I always want to give my students the best supplies that I can- make them feel like they are in fact artists. All art work is displayed in the hallways and display cases- making the student very invested in their art. However, like many schools in Iowa we are facing declining enrollment which means less funds to use for purchasing and digital camera class is one of the classes I can't afford to buy everything I want to make them successful.
