My band students love to play their instruments at school, and often want to take their instruments home to practice. However, most of my students live in homes with many family members, or in small apartments where they are not allowed to make noise. We are trying out a special practice mute for one of the most ambitious (and loudest) trombone players with the hopes this will give him an opportunity to practice whenever and wherever he wants. This student has shown exceptional progress in the past year and will flourish, and develop his sense of independence and agency, if given the opportunity to have more time to practice on his own.
