My students are mathematical geniuses who aren't given the benefit of the doubt. Though their math skills are low, with the right tools my students can conquer Algebra 1. I work in a high-need, low-income, large urban public school district in New Jersey. Our students are primarily African-American and Hispanic, and they include a high number of special education students. Every student is provided the opportunity for a free breakfast, and more than 85% of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch.
