The yarn, the loom set and the knitting and crocheting needles will allow my students to make blankets and hats for babies in our local hospital's NICU unit. My students will experience the joy of helping others in need, and learn a skill at the same time. Knitting and crocheting is known to relieve depression, stress, irritability and anxiety, and helps build self esteem. Crafting is also known to help with grief processing, and yarn crafting will help my students learn how to work together and communicate better. Many of my students have very difficult home lives. This activity can be used an outlet for them as well as a coping mechanism for them.
